Are you suggesting foul play? It would cost quite a few dollars to bring a mail order bride to the US just to push her in the ocean. Travel costs, visa costs, and I think they have to pay a dowry as well.

My family is as traditionally Filipino as it gets, and no one's ever had to pay a dowry. It may have been like that in the olden days, but it's not as widely practiced these days.

I don't doubt that it was an accident - people get pulled out to sea frequently on the coast. It just comes across to me as the guy didn't really know her very well and therefore he wasn't too emotionally attached.

There are a lot of twisted minds out there. There are a variety of scenarios and motivations -- money may not have been an obstacle. Point being ... again ... circumstances are too coincidental (and self-serving) for me. I hope there is an investigation and not just a blind acceptance of the surface 'facts'.

What motive would he have for it - just plain evil? They weren't married yet, so there wasn't insurance money. I guess I don't see why you think it's so "coincidental" - where's the coincidence?

Maybe she changed her mind. Maybe she decided that going back to the Philippines couldn't be worse than marrying this guy. Maybe she had met and fallen in love with a hot, young twenty-something Filipino guy. Maybe she rejected the middle-aged American man's proposal that day. Maybe they argued. Maybe he shoved her into the water in a fit of rage. Maybe I've been watching too much crime dramas on tv.

Pika2001 suggested that a guy wouldn't spend all this money to bring a woman into the US just to drown her. I agree that it is unlikely that someone would go through all that trouble and expense just for the intent of killing her. But if it was a guy with anger issues and the girl had rejected/humiliated/disobeyed/angered him, he might kill the girl in the heat of the moment. Not saying this is what happened, but it could be a possibility. It could also be a possibility that it really was just an unfortunate accident.
