I heard about this when I was out of town. I heard about the two people getting shot at Toys R Us, too. Ridiculous.

We went shopping at like 9pm that night. I absolutely refused to go when stores opened--I'd rather go at night and get the leftovers. While I was trying out one of the massage chairs () at BB&B, I had a chat with the manager and he told me stories of what that morning had been like:

1. An elderly woman with a cane stole a cart from a lady who looked about 9 months pregnant. A man tried to explain that it belonged to the pregnant woman and the lady just said "I'm disabled so I get it first" and threatened to beat both the man and the pregnant woman with her cane if they dared try to take it from her.

2. A woman saw another shopper with something in her hand that she wanted and it was the last one. So she pushed her cart at the woman as hard as she could, causing her to hit her head on the floor and fall unconscious. The woman picked up the thing, threw it in her cart, and walked away leaving the other shopper blacked out on the floor. (A cashier saw it happen and she was led away by police. Whatever it was she took was returned to the other shopper after she woke up and was treated).

Honestly, I've never shopped on a Black Friday morning and never will as long as I have an ounce of sanity left. Not gonna happen.

I can't find a link, and I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but I heard on the news that a 28-yr old pregnant woman was caught in that same Wal-Mart stampede and ended up miscarrying her baby after she was rushed to the hospital

My sister, on the other hand, was the complete opposite--even now, she asks for some pretty expensive things. She never utilized those basic financial lessons in college, lost her scholarships and had to come home, and ruined her credit pretty badly. Now, she has to rely on my parents for simple things like getting a credit card, cosigning on a car, and getting insurance. Forget buying a house any time soon.

My parents, bless them, do try to make it fair for us (despite the fact that I'm 27 and she's 34 and I can pretty much buy whatever I want). About a year ago, she needed some tires, and my parents got them for her. Around that same time, though, they bought me a coat that I had my eye on for a while. My sister was upset, and said that it wasn't fair that I got a coat while she got tires.

I think some people are hard-wired to be savers, and others to be spenders, even when they came up with the same financial circumstances. My parents have always been good savers and investors, and I remember some of their financial lessons. Even now, this financial climate didn't prevent my father from retiring next month, as was his plan for a few years now.

I'm not saying that your daughter will foul up like my sister, but I do think it's inborn and takes a lot of early intervention.
I concur - I grew up being quite frugal and careful with my money, and my sister has ended up quite differently. She's only three years younger than me, so difference in age can't explain it.

From my own experience, I've seen more situations where the siblings have vastly-different spending/saving habits.

So I guess that's not something I have to feel guilty about with my daughter

My brother always has money, but that has something to do with him making more than twice my income and not having kids or a spouse to spend his money. Oh, and his cost of living is much lower since he has lived in the rural south for the last 20 years. He buys much bigger houses for a lot less money than I could.

Yeah, that was discussed a few pages back (lol, somewhere in there). It turned out to be misreported and the baby is actually fine.

They are cheap jerks there @ Wal-Mart so I'm not surprised they didn't put any resources into this.
The employee that was trampled WAS the security personnel - he was trying to tell the crowds they needed to stop. My boyfriend was pretty upset to hear it because he worked his way through college at the same job at Target.

I went for 8 dollar jeans at Wal Mart and a winter coat, because i still had neither. I was down to my last pair....my $50 went a long way, but watching the wal mart employee holding a group of crazy people away from the Wiis with a box cutter was a little extreme.
