I think this will only help Obama. Most, if not all, people will consider this the right thing to do and will feel sympathy for him. It reminds us that he's human, and like all of us in a basic way. Also, I think it will force the McCain/Palin camp to cut back on the attacks while he's dealing with this difficult, painful time so as not to look like heartless jerks.
