FYP

Sure there was a relationship beyond being neighbors. They served on boards together and worked with lots of other people in Chicago on education initiatives. Some people think that's enough of a problem, others don't. From what I've seen, it was never raised as a problem in Chicago for any other politician that associated with Ayers. And it didn't seem to be a problem for the Annenbergs and the Annenberg Foundation -- not exactly liberal stalwarts.

Regardless, it hasn't seemed to make much of a dent for McCain so far.

That site's at the top of my "favorites" list these days. McCain/Palin may be energizing their base with this fluffernutter (because the base is desperate for something to grasp on to, so this'll do), but slimeballing, rhetoric and fear-mongering aren't likely to work for the GOP this year the way it did in '04, at this point, the winning issue is, IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID. This is a key paragraph from the above link that to me shows Obama's campaign "gets" how to close this campaign strong:
Quote:
Obama's best strategy may simply be to appear before a national audience as frequently as possible, as voters have always almost reacted favorably to Obama when he has had such opportunities. Obama's favorables ticked upward in all three trackers in today's release, suggesting that his strong performance in Tuesday night's debate may cancel out or exceed any traction that McCain had been able to make on Ayers. This may also be the impetus behind Obama's decision today to make a 30-minute, prime time ad buy in the week before the election, as candidates have few opportunities to reach a mass audience once the final debate has come and gone. If it so desired, the Obama campaign could probably also drive a decent amount of attention to the Keating Five, as the traffic metrics on the story essentially matched that of Ayers for the 48 hours or so that Chicago was pushing it.

The one thing I am seeing from all of this of the GOP tying to Obama to Ayers and back to Wright (and some even are trtying to put Farrakhan in that 6 degrees of separation) is that this is the same stuff Hillary and Co. tried earlier this year and I think the only reason why Mccain and the GOPs didn't jump all the way into the fray was thay they gambled that Hillary and Co. could finish the job w/o the GOP dirtying their hands...so...here we are and someone is gonna have to give in face first and use lots of soap afterwards if they plan on doing the dirt.

Chicago Politicians?

Maybe someone can enlighten me. Why does McCain often say at his rallies "I don't take pointers from a Chicago politician"... what does he mean by that? Has Chicago politicians been known to do horrible things? It reminds me when Dubyah was running against Kerry! He often said things like "...this is coming from a Massachusetts Senator".

Chicago politics is often thought of as the dirtiest politics in the country. The Chicago Democratic Party/Daley Machine is the last real example of "machine politics" in America. Chicago implies corrupt and dirty, buyoffs, bribery, dead people voting, etc.
