no, no. I am not cardsfan (promise!) I just wanted to share that while it doesn't always, or maybe even often happen, from the other side of rush I have seen girls who were actually dropped from all houses go through recruitment successfully the second time. Generally, though, this only happened when PNMs changed whatever was causing the problem (got their grades up, changed their attitude about rush/sororities, etc), rather than going through exactly the same way and expecting a different result (rather like watching Titanic and expecting the boat not to sink this time).

Probably a bad time to de-lurk, but whatevs.

LOL every time I watch Titanic, I think, maybe, just maybe, Jack and Rose really will walk off the boat together in New York....

That sentence makes no sense...........

Believe me.......A girl who goes through formal and is dropped by everyone before Pref won't fare well in most competitive formal recruitments the 2nd time around.....

violetpretty has helped a lot.

i am a junior but i have two majors so i guess i could still be considered a sophmore in academic standing on one. my gpa isnt bad but it isnt as high as id want it to be because i've had a series of health problems in the past year and i work so i dont really do a lot on campus besides study. recs are not important on my campus; not even mentioned. when you said recs i thought you meant an equivalent to a rec aid which i associated with a rho gamma. i'm not transferring just to rush. my sister needs to go to school in a different city and my parents don't want her to live alone so they've volunteered me to live with her which means i have to change schools.

i primarily wanted to join a sorority for the friendships but a huge part was philanthropy. i'm going to be in school for a long time with my majors and i want to help people in the future. I'm not a sloppy dresser; quite the opposite. i work in an office where i have to look nice and my sister is going to fashion school.

i think it would be better if i still am interested at that time to rush after i transfer.

i also have another question. if you go to grad school in the same place you rushed, since being in a sorority is for life, couldn't you still be part of the sorority on campus? i've heard of people changing campuses and having already rushed enter the same sorority/fraternity at a different chapter.

It depends on the sorority. There are certain ones who allow grad students to remain active, while others do not. I know mine doesn't.

My sorority does not allow grad school students to remain as collegiate members, either.

Based on what I've read on GC, the majority of NPCs have similar policies.

There are 2 things you might be asking here. One refers to transferring to a different school from where you first joined a sorority and that is called "Affiliation" and happens frequently. There are certain criteria for it, and each sorority may be different, but it can definitely happen.

The other question seems to be if you can remain active as a graduate student, and the answer (at least for Kappa) is yes, if you want to. But many grad students simply do not have the time to devote to being an active, but it is allowed. I don't think it happens often, though. I have also seen grad students serve as advisers or join alumnae associations.

You are right when you say membership is for life. It just looks a bit different at each stage of the game (new member, active, alumna, adviser, etc.). And once you join (become initiated) you can NEVER join another NPC organization. Someone on here says it the best when she says "you can change your hair color and even your husband, but you can never change which sorority you're in" (or something like that).

I do wish you luck and hope that things work out for you in the future.
