Some schools and Greek systems are really into maximizing your options. I know at the university where I advise a chapter, they very heavily stress that not putting down the max number of chapters on your preference card can negatively affect your recruitment results. Of course, your results would have been the same either way... as others explained, you did not match with your first two choices regardless of any chapter members' voting power.

And honestly, many girls would much rather get a bid to their 3rd choice than go bidless. I'm sorry that you were disappointed.

And... on the off chance that you went through recruitment at the school where I advise... we have done very well over the past few years at placing almost all the girls in their sorority homes, but it's not true that everyone gets their 1st or 2nd choice.

To the OP: I'm sorry things didn't work out the way you wanted them to. I'm sorry you were given and followed bad advice from your Rho Chi. Even moreso, I'm sorry you didn't give the chapter that extended you a bid a chance.

You can contact Panhellenic to see if you can change your mind. Honestly I don't know if this is possible either by NPC or your campus Panhellenic rules. It is worth a shot. The worst they can do is say "No."

Please keep in mind though that even if it is within the rules, the chapter may no longer have a spot for you. Since you officially declined the bid, that chapter may have already snap bid someone to fill their vacancy in quota.

But if that's not the case, please do not pursue this if you seriously have zero interest in being initiated into XYZ and only want to soothe your broken heart a bit. By accepting a bid with no intention of initiating you would be postponing that chapter's ability to COR up to quota.

At my school, PNMs receive their bids any time from 9 to 12, and Bid Day is at 1:00. This does give them plenty of time to dry their eyes if they are upset. However, there are some girls who choose to take their 24 hours- it's not common, but it happens. You would just miss Bid Day. For us, limiting the amount of tent talk going on after pref cards are signed is more of a necessity than giving girls added time, so Bid Day is the afternoon after Pref Night.

SureSister's first post ever was on August 27. The tiny link to said blog was completely eliminated by September 2. It was on there for weeks?
Apparently the posts have been "cached." Do you suppose there are a lot of people who are digging through cached posts?

Let's note that SureSister has not referenced the blog in her posts nor directed you to go there. She HAS provided thoughts and advice for PNMs, just the same as many others.

SureSister prefers to demonstrate to our PNMs that a friendly Panhellenic-spirited community can exist in the alumnae or online world as well as on a collegiate campus. Now that others have lowered themselves to the level of calling a woman deplorable and stupid, she wonders... can it?

Wouldn't collegiate sorority members handle this kind of a discussion behind closed doors? Or would they throw etiquette out the window and hash it out on a busy midday sidewalk on campus?

Please note that SureSister is not the one who hijacked this thread to turn it into a discussion about a blog. She is fine with not mentioning it again. Now, are you?

The line has been removed from the TWO posts on which they were included and from the signature. Apparently the posts have been "cached." Do you suppose there are a lot of people who are digging through cached posts?

Only one question remains. With the exception of the PS in the above post, why does SureSister always refer to herself in the third person?

I was JUST about to post this, good think I refreshed the page before I did! lol

P.S. SureSister. You registered in July, which means you probably added that link on your blog since then. Just because your first post was August 27 doesn't mean your link was "hidden."

Lillady85 thinks that SureSister and Jimmy from Seinfeld are going out but Lillady85 would never say such a thing.

33girl thinks SureSister, Jimmy and Bob Dole are probably having a three way. 33girl's gonna go throw up now.

Have you ever read Judith Martin books? SureSister has forever enjoyed how she refers to herself as Miss Manners. Seems appropriate to honor Ms. Martin's technique given the lack of etiquette contained in some recent posts.

Signature: Link was added the day of the first post.

Again, the link is gone.

I don't want to get in the rest of the mix, but this kind of statement is a big peeve of mine. Wouldn't Miss Manners frown on openly criticizing the etiquette of others? It's like people who complain loudly about the other team's lack of sportsmanship - to me that is being a poor sport, too.

Sometimes we have to silently take the high road (if we are convinced there is a high road), because trying to take it vocally in this manner falls flat.
