i was chatting with a friend about michelle's speech. i agree with your comments. it was definitely designed to quiet the naysayers and perhaps bring the staunch hillary folks and/or the folks who are considering mccain since hillary didnt get the nom.

Nominating conventions are crafted for the broad, unengaged middle. People, who to this point, have not focused on the detail of either campaign. For many it's the first introduction to Obama and his family. For those who are engaged, it probably will appear, at times,.....boring.

Personally, I didn't think Michelle's speech was all that either, but it was effective, I think, in debunking the initial image her husband's opponents have tried to create for her.

One of my colleagues has worked for years (although not this year) as a lead guy at RNC stage committee (making sure everything/everyone you see at the podium happens as they want it to happen.) Trust me, this is stagecraft writ large for both parties.
