It seemed really cartoonish to me. maybe her facial expressions throughout the whole thing? Not to mention the costumes.
Especially when compaired to some of the other dances that seemed more authentic to the culture they were representing.

The Russian ice skating costume was a bad choice. I'm sure the original intent of the costumes was to honor the aboriginal culture as they claim and their routine was designed to be a shout out to the aborigini. (That sucks even more since their facial expressions were silly and they are even more silly in still photos.)
But, when in doubt, don't do it. Many things aren't opportunities to pay homage or to teach and learn. The lesson gets lost in the jacked up context. They were there to perform and wow the crowd--they should've chosen some catchy outfits to do so so their routine wouldn't get lost in the "awkward silence" that happened during their performance. Their rank went down and it was partly (maybe mostly) a result of the costumes and facial expressions.

I just watched it on the NBC site, too, and it was preceded by a Procter & Gamble ad with the unfortunate slogan "Official sponsor of moms." Yikes.

Ok I heard a P&G commercial the other day with that slogan and was totally hoping I misheard. Unfortunately not

Yeah, Rachael wasn't as graceful as the others, I agree. I didn't realize her jumps were under-rotated. But for Nagasu's score to be a whole 12 points behind the pack and her program was virtually clean...

I was thrilled to see Joannie get up on that podium so I guess I'm another bad American.  Naw, she deserved it. The American skaters have plenty of time for medals in the future.

Yea, I thought it to be a bit too much for the Olympics. I get it. You won. You're excited. But why can't the alcohol and cigars be saved for the locker room?

YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAA JOANNIE!!!!!! I'm so happy she made the podium. I feel like such a bad American to be hoping Nagasu wouldn't knock her off but I feel like Joannie deserves that medal to skate the way she did under the circumstances she had. There were a few small mistakes but she was still phenomenal.
Even though I didn't want Nagasu to go above, I don't think she deserved such a low score when her program was clean. And why the heck was Rachael Flatt in 7th place?? Oh well.

You were not the only "bad" American. DoctorD and I were chatting on Yahoo at the time and we both wanted Joannie to make the podium. I don't know how she held it together enough to skate or deal with her situation. I think the judges felt the same way, hence the lower Nagasu score.

Rachell also lost 8 points due to her jumps being under-rotated (so what was supposed to be a triple was only counted as a double). And I was so happy that Joannie medaled! and in a way, Brian Orser finally has his gold!

I felt the same way - loved seeing her blow a kiss to the sky! I was actively cheering her on.
Rachel Flatt had the bad luck of the draw by being first to skate, too. The first one is always the hardest scrutinized & scored. She's young, though, so look out, 2014!
