Did they ever give his name? I didn't hear it.

Just found it....
"Led by NBA star Yao Ming and Lin Hao, a primary school student from the quake-affected Sichuan province, the Chinese delegation paraded into the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games on Friday night.
The 9-year-old Lin walked ahead of the 1,099-member delegation, side by side with the 7-foot-6 basketballer, who carried the Chinese national flag.
Team China, which includes 639 athletes and has an average age of 24.4, will compete in all 28 sports.
Lin is a second-grader at the Yuzixi Primary School in Yingxiu Town, Wenchuan County. Wenchuan was the epicenter of a devastating 8.0-magnitude earthquake on May 12 that killed over 69,000 people. "

came across a rather interesting olympic tie in or cross over while shopping. to directly quote autoweek: "Olympic-caliber athletes share our enthusiasm for high-performance machines, so each week, we're profiling the automotive passions of one the top contenders for glory and gold in this summer's Olympic Games in Beijing"
hot bodies and hot cars.

Back in 2002, Torres added a car-racing title to her list of accomplishments by winning the pole and taking the checkered flag in celebrity and overall categories in the 26th Annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race in Long Beach, California. For the overall title, Torres beat out then-little-known female open-wheel racer Danica Patrick, who won the professional category.

I expected Jeremy Wariner's cars to be more pimped out.
Glad to see they didn't feature LeBron with his Bentley, Maybach and Mercedes.

Wow...just wow:
"It was a day that was filled with horror. On May 12th, 2008, a massive earthquake measuring 7.9 on the richter scale hit the Sichuan province in China, killing over 70,000 people. Before the earthquake, 9 year old LIn Hao sat in his 2nd grade classroom, among 30+ students. When the earthquake struck, the entire building collapsed on Lin Hao and his classmates. But before Lin Hao escaped the rubble, he went back into the pile of rubble and was able to save two of his classmates. When asked why he risked his life to save others, he said, “I was the hall monitor, it was my job to look after my classmates…”"

I'll admit I kept wondering why that little kid's flag was upside down.

Military members of my family have always told me that an upside down flag is the international symbol for distress (e.g., a ship flying an upside down flag when it's in trouble).
So maybe it was somehow symbolic for the disaster he'd been through and the continuing recovery they're dealing with?
That, or the manufacturer REALLY screwed up.

Because it probably slid off the stick and fell down and the kid shoved it back on again without too much thought. He is 9 years old, after all. (shrug)

I had thought that to but I figured the announcers would have mentioned it.

Costas wouldn't have missed talking about that if it was true.
