I'm a bit of a style nut myself , and I must admit watching Stacy and Clinton on Fridays with my g/f, so when people drag out new terms for old ideas, it seems to frustrate me.

For a girl, it would be similar to "business casual" but not as laid back as "resort casual". Remember you may be standing around on somebody's front lawn drinking koolaid so heels probably aren't practical. But neither are Adidas runners, jean shorts and a top that would embarrass Ms. Spears. I'd suggest a skirt/blouse, or a sundress, or even a lightly tinted lounge suit (remember a lounge suit is also known as a business suit, not to be compared with a tracksuit). Remember, you can always leave a blazer in the car, but you can't magically summon one if everybody else shows up dressed like Queen Victoria.

For guys, it's a bit more rigid. Blue blazers and khakis are out, but I'd expect a cashmere sweater, a polo (or two with popped collars if that's your style) and dress slacks. For shoes, wear desert boots or even loafers.

What's not appropriate? Girls should show little cleavage. Trust me, nobody wants to be embarrassed or jealous on recruitment days. If the weather is hot, choose fabrics like linen, silk or cotton. Also not appropriate are tracksuits, jeans, low cut tops, short dresses or anything that you would wear out if you were trying to get somebody to go home with you.

For guys, try to stay ivy-league, but not costumey. I've worn cravats and french cuffs to chapter ritual meetings, but I didn't do that while pledging. Avoid the Brooks University Blazer, unless you've removed the crest. Avoid polyester. Navy blue and white are safe. So is pink and green. Orange and blue is questionable (although my school and political party colours) and this is not the time for GTH gear.
