we have a winner. and it it still there. family friend lives up the hill from it.
toms truck broke down one day and the rest is history.
and from what i understand, no only is there is no plague or anything giving the history of it but it may be closed, torn down and replaced by either a store or restaurant.

But, okay I'll play along. You asked who has the best ice cream. As far as I'm concerned, soft-serve =/= ice cream. So between the two, BR by default.
After reading the posts, I totally forgot about Cold Stone. It is the best, but I can never finish it. It's too filling.

Cold Stone is totally overrated in my opinion. I happen to like Baskin Robbins - I'm old skool like that. But the ice cream I LOVE is Tillamook from the Tillamook dairy in Oregon!

For a nice alternative, I like Pinkberry and Red Mango.

Co-sign. Their ice cream feels too "thick" to me and relies too heavily on the mix-ins -- the ice cream itself has very little flavor, IMO.

Now that is good ice cream. Once upon a time, Biltmore Diaries in Asheville had great ice cream, too.

As for mix-in-type, I prefer Maggie Moo's to Cold Stone -- love the cinnimon flavored ice cream with almonds mixed in.

love cinnimon ice cream. hard to find it however. seems to be the state flavor of Maryland however based on several visits.

Brigham's is good stuff, and Emack and Bolio's is very good as well. Someone at my old office worked at Brigham's on the weekends, and used to bring ice cream into the office all the time.

One of our apartments had an Emack and Bolio's right down the street. Not quite J.P. Licks, but still really good.

J.P. Licks also has great ice cream cakes. Their Oreo cake is outstanding. My wife and I used to get them for each other's birthdays (that is, when we weren't getting cakes from Rosie's, an excellent Boston-area bakery).

Count me among those who think Cold Stone is overrated. There was one next door to my gym in Boston (I know, really funny); I tried it once, and it was only ok.
