DS's wikipedia link goes through it well - I'm not much of a comics guy, so I don't really care about continuity issues, but they're kind of cornered with Ledger being dead and all, so it'll be interesting to see what they do.
The Joker is perfect for Batman because their interaction is actually much deeper than it really should be for a comic hero/villain setup - the Joker really exists to get Batman's attention, and wouldn't exist without Batman. It has literary father/son and teacher/student undertones, etc. Very weird, but much more there than you'd expect - that's similar to why Iron Man worked, but I couldn't give a shit about Daredevil or anything else. Depth.

Ksic...i was thinking more like a yin yang kinda thing...not so much father/ son...
The Joker is Batman's barometer....he exists to remind Batman that there is a line that he can never cross if he is ever to stay true to himself al tho the Joker is more than willing to accomodate.
I will agree with you about daredevil...I hated that movie....but this is what's going on here....as each superhero franchise is being brought to life onscreen, writers and creators are doing whta it takes to add more life and breadth to these otherwise 2D characters....
it's kinda like......Superman set a bar that wasn't rivalled until batman.......then another long period went by and then Spiderman and as each movie behind Spiderman came thru the floodgates, moviemakers realized that they had to make sure they got them as right as possible if they were gonna keep fans....which is why Dark Knight has set another bar that others coming behind it will be hard pressed to overcome...

Blasphemy.
I saw it on IMAX on Sunday. It was amazing. I felt like I was flying along with Batman.

I saw it Friday night--the lines were really huge, and some of the bigger theatres in town were sold out days in advance. Two kids told us to cut in front of them so we got good seats.
How could you not like this movie? If you have Morgan Freeman in a movie, you don't need anyone else. But the other characters in this were all excellent also. I liked the fact that it was shot in Chicago, but with the lighting and the overhead vantage points, you could scarcely tell where it was most of the time (until they were on the street right on lower Wacker Drive).

This coming from the poster with a Star Trek quote as their signature.
*Not that ST sucks but c'mon!
The movie was awesome and completely went above and beyond any superhero/comic book movie.

lol lol lol
I love Star Trek, and Star Wars too.
Actually it's my own quote though. I made it up. I mean, it is true though.
When I went to see batman, I fell asleep a couple of times. But it was SO funny whenever he turned into Batman, because he would change his voice. lol lol. That was SO stupid.
Sorry.

lol lol lol Oh yeah! I forgot about the lisp. My God I couldn't stop laughing at that. Then they would show his lips close up moving really, really fast. lol lol
Does anyone remember how stupid batman was in the 60s? I wasn't born then, but it still comes on. I think it's on tv land. I watch it just to get a good laugh. "Holy lisping lips batman" lol lol
