Forgive me for not reading this entire thread, and I apologize if these have already been mentioned...

But ANY name that rhymes with "Aiden" is a no-no for me. And my best friend Kate has decided on Braden if she has a boy (she's due in December), which is the most prevalent of all the Aiden-rhymes!

During my six-month stint as a daycare teacher, I met children named:

Braden/Braiden/Brayden/Braedyn (that one was a girl, whose parents have Welsh ancestry, so I can forgive the "unique" spelling)
Aiden
Hayden
Caden
Jayden
Evan
Ethan
Graycen
Braylen (REALLY?!)
Logan
Jackson
Jaxon
Tiernan

There were many others that ended with "an" or "en" or "in." Seriously, what is it with WASPs and those names?

Then again, my daughter is named Meredith. Although she was the only Meredith at the school she went to/I worked at, which I found comforting, I do have my suspicions that it might become an "it" name in the coming years.

Pardon me if I've already mentioned how much I hate the name Austin. Every one I've taught has been a holy terror!

Angry got one for you

I have a friend who is a teacher and was tutoring an 8th grader while she was on (ahem) maternity leave....anywhoo she named her darling daughter:

Diamond Blaze ...

Now here I thought Chris Rock had it good when he said his main job is to keep his daughter off the pole. With that name, you just insured her top billing on the marquis...Sad really sad.

FAIL!

A friend of mine's mom is a special education teacher in an elementary school, so I've spent some time talking with her, etc.

One year, she had a girl on her roster named....SHITHEAD.

But, it was pronounced Shi-Tay-Ed. Spelled Shithead, though. Imagine that one the first day of school or as a substitute.

Never ever give your kid a name that is easily mistaken for profanity. It's just not nice.

Just like little "Roxy Kendra" in my god-daughter's dance class.

Our kids' high school had recent sister grads named Sparkle and Twinkle. Oddly, they were from India.

Dumb question, but who was on maternity leave, your friend or the 8th grader? It could go either way with the way the post is read. I hope it was your friend and not the 8th grader though.

That's what I thought too, but kids don't usually get maternity leave from school...which is why I asked. Normally it's some sort of independent study agreement.

I am afraid to post any of my kids names because they are so unique, but I am against names that sound/look like this:

Ra'ture
O'rus'sa
Ra'shita

You get the picture. Also, people please refrain from making up names!!!! It would be nice if every parent can find the meaning of the child's name and trace it back to some language family. I know this sounds bad, but parents are setting them up for failure. As much as we try not to, I look at my class list on the first day and think to myself now Le'tootsie pop is going to be a handful!

I went for a fairly unique name and a unique spelling for my daughter...I hope no one's like "Geeze, woman - what were you thinking?!?"

Although, now there's a Barbie princess with her name (but not spelling), so I'm sure it will increase in popularity soon.

It's not bad, because at least it can be traced back to Germany and the Netherlands. I have met a couple while in those places.
