Pets in chapter house?
Last week, I was having a conversation at work with a woman who works for one of our event sponsors. We started talking about dogs after she saw a picture of my little guy. She mentioned that she was in a sorority at UCLA back in the 90s. I didn't recognize the sorority's name b/c it wasn't a NPC sorority ... She went on to say that they had a tiny maltese, who lived in the house as the chapter's "pet". I know for a fact that we weren't allowed to have an pets in our chapter house (other than fish) b/c some sisters may have allergies.
Do any of your chapter's have pets?

We never had an official pet. I know some of the girls would have pets over once in a while but not living at the house. Other then dogs in the house we did have a goat put in our courtyard by one of the fraternities on time. Some of the fraternities may have had some but can't remember for sure.

Our national housing policies prohibit pets.

Delta Gamma's does too. They can get a waiver for the House Director to have a pet though.

Are small caged pets, such as fish and mice, that you can easily keep in your room and take care of simply and discreetly, ever allowed?

We had a Maine Coon-ish cat named Calva for a while. This was after we had moved into our smaller house.
I think most of the fraternities had dogs.

We had two dogs for a year. And I believe one person had a hamster. We banned it now though.

We almost always had a kitten (several Alphies!), but they were all illegal.
The Pikas always had a dalmation.

When I rushed at IU in the early 90s, AEPhi had a really cute house dog. I don't remember the breed.

My chapter seemed to have a lot of Beta fish in the house.
My friends in fraternities always had one (sometimes two!) house dogs.

House Cat
My university prohibits us from having house animals. However, there are tons of feral cats roaming our campus. One particular cat, Finn as we named him, took a liking to the Greek Courts. One of the house girls began feeding him and let him inside. The other sisters living there freaked out, some didn't like cats, others were allergic. Eventually it was decided that Finn would not be allowed inside, but don't feel bad for him, he's a total player: while he was hanging around the Alpha Chi Omega house a lot he was also flirting with the Sigma Kappa house girls, too! Haha!

I'm pretty sure our EO prohibits animals unless it was a fish in a small bowl or small aquarium.
Every girl in the house wanted a dog or cat, but if EO allowed it, we surely would have had a zoo and besides allergies that other sisters might have, it could create sanitary issues if every girl in the house had a dog or cat or rabbit or whatever.
I've seen some fraternities who had a dog in their house, but it wasn't a 'mascot' or 'chapter dog'.. it was usually the dog of one of the brothers living there.
