I never said that it had anything to do with their type of legal system. It was supposed to be more of an aside just stating for those that didn't know, that they operate on a different legal system. Either way, the decision was asinine and I'm surprised it hasn't come up for a review of some kind. If I was her father, I would have completely washed my hands of her. She can go live with her mother.

According to the Ottawa Citizen, the girl's father is appealing this.

Yes, and we also tried to make a law mandating that children must say "sir" and "ma'am" when addressing their teachers!
What's the punishment? Jail time? Ha!
