With the exception of his immigration policies I think what hes doing for prison image is great. I've felt like prison was a bit to comfy of a punishment and that if i ever became homeless I'd commit some kind of crime so I could go to jail and get 3 meals a day a bed showers tv books and other benefits. This sheriff makes me fear the idea of ever going near prison which is how it should be. Prison is a PUNISHMENT if you killed a loved one of mine you shouldn't get benefits!!!

PSA: A county jail is not a prison.

Also, since this is a Tom Earp thread meaning I don't have to offer anything of substance (yahoo!):

1) Tom, you of all people, as a former law enforcement officer, should be able to spell Sheriff correctly.
1a) I-n-c-a-r-c-e-r-a-t-i-o-n.
1(m) See the thread title if you are confused and/or dazed
2) Sheriff Joe is filthy trash and I hope a Mexican steals his job.

Illegal immigrants who break the law . . .

Here in Houston an illegal immigrant who killed a police officer recently got off with life. Not only was he here illegally, he had had run-ins with the law before. The officer's family is of course upset, and the public at large is fairly stunned. This is a man convicted of sexual assault of a 12 year old girl - has now killed a police officer - will be living on the tax payers money until he dies, proablly 40 - 50 years from now.
The good to come out of this tragedy is that police departments here are re-thinking their previous "hands off" policy regarding immigration.

eta - and Geeky, if Tom looks at the thread title he's still going to have spelling problems!

That jury was one in a million. Any other jury and he would have gotten spiked.

If ICE was actually doing their jobs (which is a whole tangent I shouldn't go off on) they would have picked up that guy after his sexual assault incarceration and shipped him back to where he came from.

Read "State of emergency" by Pat Buchanon, its eye opening.
You know as well as anyone that the immigrant problem is slowly destroying the Southwest, not only does the average Mexican immigrant cost America $90,000 in their lifetime (on average,) but they carry strange diseases (TB, Chagas, etc.) and are more likely to commit crimes.
