ALPHA GAMMA DELTA said okay with these?
The letters are one thing...but our ARMORIAL BEARINGS? Not only that...they have our Canadian version too!

Yeah, if these boards are 'watched' like many allude to, I hope someone takes note and rips the Alpha Gam licensing away -- at the VERY least, the crest, for goodness sake. That's just ridiculous, IMO.

I still can't get over the fact that they had the Canadian crest as well. I don't think too many vendors have the crest without the helmet.
At least they're thinking of our Canadian sisters!

Likewise, I was amazed that they had our Hand and Key. I don't think I've ever seen it on any item.

I noticed that too. What is the significance of the difference between the American and Canadian bearings (if it's not ritual)?

I don't think it's ritual, I think it's just political. Since Canada is still under the crown, I think there's something about not being able to have the helmet in the crest due to something in British law or heraldry or something.

Ah, what better way to fellowship than a nice competitive game of beer pong?
"The Objects of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity shall be the promotion of good fellowship and the cultivation of the social virtues among our members; the protection of just rights and the advancement of the best interests, present and future, individual and collective, of all those who shall be associated together as members of this Fraternity; the encouragement of good scholarship and the breadth of training for our members; and cooperation in the educational and cultural programs of institutions of higher education in which our Chapters are located." -From the website.

Yep! The helmet is reserved strictly for the sovereign, and that's why our Canadian sisters have the Armorial Bearings without it.
Emily Helen Butterfield was an expert on Heraldry. She really knew her stuff!

And this is how we honor her, her beloved crest on a friggin' ping pong ball...

I think you guys are all missing the point. The point is to buy the ping pong balls of your rival fraternity or sorority and smash the heck out of them in a rousing game of table tennis.

Would you feel the same way about a golf ball?

I was getting ready to ask that.
I have never seen someone play golf with their letters or crest on the ball. I've seen people use GLO golf balls as display items.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone has already contacted them about this but it doesn't hurt to err on the side of caution and contact them yourself. It's incredibly tacky and downright disrespectful (IMO) to put the crest and letters of your organization on these pong balls.

As advisors, we spend so much time stressting to the women the need to represent themselves well when they're in letters or whenever they're associated with the fraternity in any way, but then IHQ gives the ok to these to come out? And even if someone were to use these for actual ping pong (which I highly doubt), I still wouldn't want anyone swatting at something with our crest on it!!!!

My husband contacted a national officer about it. He was pretty mad about Dr. Mitchell's face ...
