I don't know how old this thread is and if you are interested in knowing anything about Eastern Star then leave me a message. Just to pinpoint things about Eastern Star, their are seven levels of eastern star and different affiliations. You have to attend meeting every month and a lot of things you must learn. You also have different attire you have to wear and the higher you go the dangerous it becomes. Some people don't know how serious it is. And when you write me please don't not ask dumb questions because I only can talk to you about this to a certain point.

I'll say this quietly because I don't want to alarm the crazy people, but me thinks someone has a touch of the Mariah syndrome.

				 Diversity in OES? (Eastern Star)

I am an employee of a local alternative paper heading the promotions team, new-hire flight attendant, Boys and Girls Club volunteer, student, and mother. As a proud woman, I am looking to join an organization based on sisterhood, faith, and community service. My experiences and the beliefs upheld by the order have sparked an interest in the Eastern Star. My Grandmother was a member, but she passed before I was old enough to really ask her about her experience. It seems to be a great option for me. But, I do have a few questions that I can't seem to find answers to online. As a 26 year old Atlanta native, I grew up in a diverse community, surrounded by people from all walks of life. Is there a chapter that is diverse culturally, racially, as well as age-wise? Is this a non-existent concept within the order? Or, am I being a little too optimistic? From what I can conclude, there seems to be a racial divide in GA. There must be something in the Metro Atlanta area available to young, open-minded females looking to be a part of a positive social environment that is welcoming to women of all types. All information is greatly appreciated......THANK YOU!!!

				Diversity...

I would say that in ATL, you shouldn't have a problem. I know SiStars from there who are Filipino, White, and African American. I brought in one of my best friends, who is Korean. Another of my close friends is to be initiated soon, and she is Sicilian. You can see that diversity is not a problem; the only thing that you would need to be concerned with is whether or not you meet the "bloodline" requirement. As far as age, you should keep in mind that younger Stars are still the minority, but we are definitely growing! You will learn a lot from those older members, keep that in mind. If you have any other questions, you can PM me.
Hope this helps, and good luck to you on your endeavors!

As one who has also been considering it, after ten years and close relatives and friends who are members and who I have had the opportunity to discuss the matter with, I still don't believe I have enough information about the organization to comfortably pursue it. My advice, which I follow, would be to get with someone you trust who is a member and who you can talk to, research, and basically learn as much as you can about their history first. There are probably a million different organizations "based on sisterhood, faith, and community service", but this one is far different.
