Oh my god, Jon, what a ridiculous analogy. There are innumerable cases of car "accidents" where people have been killed (civilian and officer) where the punishment does not seem equitable and people seem to get away with little or no penalty even when a life has been claimed.
This woman driving 16 miles an hour over the speed limit and not seeing or steering around or stopping in time to not hit the officer (who stepped out in front of her) is NOTHING like 5 officers mowing down an unarmed man in a hail of 50 bullets, including a reloading.
Sounds like this revision to police policy in that area that trained their officers to step in front of speeding vehicles in LONG overdue:

"No justice, No peace" would seem to fit this rather well.

True-good question
Another one would be: how much training for a driver does it take not to hit someone. As story says, others (drivers) saw the officer in the road.
First thing I heard this morning was a two car accident right in front of my house.
A Jeep(RTM) ended up just about on top of a fire plug.
So there were police officers, firemen, EMTs, water dept men, and tow truck operators all over the
place. During rush hour. Not one was hit.
Perhaps that was on my mind more than just about anything else.

I don't really like making double-standard arguments, but yeah I agree somewhat. I don't hear the same outcry for police struck down, at least not from the same people. There are differences, like the power police are given because of their position. But when you run over someone or pick up a firearm, you're taking on additional responsibilities too.

That is an assinine statement!
I don't know how many times I was almost struck by dumb asses with lights going but they did not see them or a waving 5 cell flash light waving to warn drivers.
People do not pull to the left next lane, they just keep driving like in a fog. 
A friend of mine on the KC Ks. Department was killed and it is hard to take. 
All one ahs to do ios see Police Cars video cams to see Officers struck by cars and either killed are paralyzed.
The same thing goes for road crews or anyone else working on our highways!

still not the fault of the driver if he randomly walks out into traffic
