A couple of years ago, there was a hupla about Indian names for teams and the Seminoles told the press to leave them out of it, that they were happy and proud to have FSU using their name and identity as their mascot.

That's called "having a sense of ownership."

They don't feel mocked, belittled or objectified in that specific context. They have endorsed it (there is probably more to it than we are being told) and therefore don't feel that images are being taken and used against them.
