I've been trying to figure that guard out, too. Alpha Iota but they couldn't attach the I? Or special meaning for Alpha chapter?
As far as age (let me put my badge nerd glasses on), I'm pretty sure the 2 lines in the crown indicate that it is probably from the early 30's.

The badge came in the mail yesteray and it is gorgeous!!! ALL diamonds and super sparkly. The seller said it was silver but it is marked 14K so that means it is white gold. Very nice surprise. The price through Herff-Jones is $440 but I got it for about a third of that.

That's awesome!! I think I may be wrong but I thought the national prez's badge was all diamonds...??
ETA: please post a pic of your new badge, it sounds beautiful and very lucky that it's gold and not silver!

Ohhh thats really pretty. I love opals and would bid on it, but I've heard that its bad luck to wear them if it isnt your birthstone.
