One of my Pledge Brothers is a rock climber.
One of the things he did, to keep in shape and training, was to climb the outside of UPS's clock tower. With his hands.

So, let us not be so quick to judge.
Matt is management at REI.

Unfortunately, others have tried the same thing and not have it turn out so well. In either Spring or Fall '86, a Sigma Chi at University of Arkansas decided to rappel (?) off the roof of the house during a party. He was killed when the rope didn't hold.

So, what difference does it make if a person is maimed or dead? A lot.

None.
That said, circumstances, equipment, knowledge, experience, expertise, and attitude do.
And even "pros" get hurt. Several years ago, Matt while involved in a high-mountain rescue, hurt his knee and had to be helped off location.
