Volume 5, Issue 10
They’re Baaaaack!
And Already Out in Force
Josh McKenzie
In the January 2007 issue of Letters, readers were informed of the charter removal of MTSU’s Sigma Nu Fraternity by their National Headquarters. The current issue would like to now report the return of the gentlemen of Sigma Nu to the MTSU campus, a mere one year and three months later. With sixteen new members, the newly reformed colony of fifty men is already back on its feet and ready to get back into business.

Chi Omega’s Wish Week, benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, was the first event the gentlemen were able to participate in during the week of March 25th. Sigma Nu joined together to support the ladies of Chi Omega and to compete against other participating fraternities in the week’s events. At the Mr. MTSU pageant on March 31st, Sigma Nu was named the winner of Wish Week, receiving $1,000 to go toward their philanthropy.

“We were honored to be apart of Chi Omega’s Wish Week and the great support we received from the ladies,” says Sigma Nu Vice President Steve Disser. “I want to thank all of the Chi Omega ladies for allowing us to participate and giving us a cause to support together as a new colony.”

This past Wednesday, the gentlemen presented the $1,000 check to Pennies for Peace on the KUC Knoll. The organization raises money, one penny at a time, for educational programs in Afghanistan and Pakistan. One U.S. penny is enough to fund a pencil and open the door to literacy in the underprivileged countries. MTSU is also supporting Pennies for Peace by choosing the summer reading book as “Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortenson. If purchased in Phillips Bookstore, one dollar of each book purchase benefits the educational cause.

With a first place trophy in hand and a donation of $1,000 to a campus sponsored philanthropy, the gentlemen of Sigma Nu are back on track.

“We are excited to be back on campus and anxious to get involved,” says Sigma Nu Sorority Relations Chair Wil Shults. “We are ready to begin working with other Greek organizations and with causes in the surrounding community.”
