It wasn't until I got to college that AAVE became a part of my language--going to a black school will do that for you. I also picked up different dialects as I stayed in various places; it all depends on the region of the person I'm speaking with. I use Bay Area vernacular when I'm home, southern vernacular with my college friends. My accent changes with each conversation, too. I had to develop "The Switch" as well, to be able to turn it on and off, depending on who I'm speaking with. I can't use my Virginia vernacular with cousins, they won't understand. As far as my posting on here, I often speak more "properly" in the general forums, but lean more toward AAVE with some southern slang in the Delta forum. I use a lot of my Bay Area slang in other sites I post on. I just all depends.

ETA: I don't like Dunkin' or Krispy. I prefer the local chain, Winchell's. There'll never be anything like it, so I typically don't eat donuts at all until I go home. So there.

Maybe do you mean speaking proper Ameican language and not true British English?

Tom, no one in here could misconstrue that as me being brought up to speak British English...in California.

question...for Tom...being as British English....like almost any other language...has dialects depending on what region you are in...how can you even define it as 'true English'?

Sorry, but I've been out of place and unable to get good computer access for a while.

But yes, Krispy Kremes come with a variety of glazes/icings/toppings and filings. But even if it were just the plain glazed, that alone far exceeds Dunkin Donuts, where every "flavor" is just a variation on dry and bad.

Now, you know if you're not getting messy, you're doing something wrong.

Huh? Oh, dear God. Now I know it's bad when I have to eat them a certain way. Face it, they're gross.

Me = Dunkin' Donuts------>

Face it, you're wrong. I won't even walk into the next room for a free Dunkin Donut on the rare occasion that a co-worker brings them instead of Krispy Kremes -- Dunkin' Donuts just aren't worth even that little bit of effort.

I think any co-workers who bring KKs to work should have their employment terminated.
