I could be wrong, but I think they were not the quintessential "clothier" as much as they made excellent tents and that sort of thing.

Well I have heard that Abercrombie used to be way preppy; I think that some older GC folks were talking about it in the "Back in the Day" thread.

And why is it that the men who are the fattest wear them the most? You have extra fat to keep your neck warm, do you really need the turtle?
Re Abercrombie, BB etc, get a copy of the Official Preppy Handbook and it pretty much explains what's what. The Abercrombie name was bought by The Limited sometime in the 90s which resulted in its present incarnation.

The late 80s, actually.
And I don't have my old copy handy, but doesn't The Official Preppy Handbook list Abercrombie & Fitch in its "RIP" section (late, great stores)?
ETA: If I remember right, A&F closed in the 70s, then later reopened as a high-end sporting goods store before being bought by The Limited.

Yes, and still the best cars I have ever owned. Much better than this Land Rover piece of shit I now have or my BMW that blew an engine 6 weeks out of warranty.

LR2 -- it's small. After having a Mercedes ML, it doesn't live up to the expectations.

They sold sporting/outdoor clothing, and they were the place to buy that sort of clothing. I found this picture from an old catalog at The Wiki:
A bit different from their catalogs today.
