futuregreek-
First let me say that I am happy you are going through recruitment. Joining a sorority was one of the best things I ever did.
Second- I will re-state what most have said already: every school is different, every sorority is different, and even if you asked the Zetas at your school, they wouldn't tell you what to expect necessarily. Recruitment is a time for thinking on your feet. No one gets to know the questions before they go on a game show. I will tell you that the plege period for most sororities (that I know of), consists of New Member Education...you learn the history, founders, greek alphabet, ETC. The most hazing I went through was trying to find a white dress in FEBRUARY for initiation. Finding a white dress in the winter months = not easy. (and no, I didn't really consider it hazing).
Third- The women will check up on you. Every Zeta I know is classy and they want classy ladies. Part of being classy is clean communication. It's just like a job. If you want the job, you better know how to speak and write well, even if it's something that doesn't seem important. TRUST ME, if they have 2 spots left and you and the other girl are the same as far as GPA, etc, and the only thing separating you is your grammar/typing/etc, you're going to be cut.
Fourth- I KNEW where I wanted to be when I walked into recruitment (and for the same reason as you- the philanthropy)....The first day I cut the house I thought I would join because I just didn't mesh well with the girls there. I would have loved the philanthropy but I wouldn't have felt like I had SISTERS there.
Good luck! I hope you find the home you're looking for.
