I feel like Grad school is so much harder to get though than undergrad. Undergrad, well for me at least, was a lot more challenging. Probably b/c I was growing up, learning how to be the best MsSweetness I could be etc...And don't get me wrong, grad school isn't a breeze but it's hard for me to stay focused. I want this degree bad, but I also want to be working and making money with it NOW!! It's frustrating. Staying focused is key for any degree though. That's what I'm trying to do

Undergrad Major: Finally... Biomedicine (I flop-flopped between Microbiology, Biotechnology and Bio-med... bio-med won)!

Minor: Bio-chemistry

Graduate School: Optometry (1 of 4 years almost down... come on 2009)!

I hear you MsSweetness! This grad school stuff is no joke!
I'm still in shock regarding how much these people actually expect you to do/retain (w/i half the time you're used to in undergrad)!
If I didn't know the power of prayer before... I sure do now!

Anyone else having (had) the Grad School Blues? For all the "had's" please share the knowledge on how you made it through!

When you get a chance, research the schools where you're thinking about getting your doctorate from. Check out their requirements for admission. Some may want applicants to have a certain number of credits in Education.
In either case, I think having an Education minor would be a good step for you. That way, you will have even more options for later on in your academic path.

Hello all, I am currently an undergraduate student looking to broaden my view of graduate options available to me. For the engineering students, did any of you find it hard to decide which branch of engineering to venture into? I know that a few of them overlap so it has been hard for me to decide what field I want to study. I am currently a mechanical engineering major.

Also, which organizations (NSBE, SWE, etc.) , if any, do you feel best prepared you for life after undergrad?

Undergrad Major: Communication
Undergrad Minor: None
Current Grad Degree Pursuing: National Security Studies

I am currently a military intelligence officer in the Army. I actually use my major every day with all the briefings/presentations I have to do. Plus all the interpersonal communication classes I had to take actually came in handy. Doing grad school and working full time is not the business right now!

How did your major(s)/minor(s) prepare you to do your job? Um, I know a lot of random things. A lot of these things relate to books and their content.
What internships did you do to get ready for your profession? None.

What is/was your college minor(s)? Business Administration and Spanish

What are you doing now professionally? Staff Attorney (received J.D. in 2006)
How did your major(s)/minor(s) prepare you to do your job? Law school prepared me--not my major. My Spanish minor has helped me to be more marketable.
What internships did you do to get ready for your profession? I interned with the Texas legislature and Congress. These internships helped me to get into law school. I sacrificed my college life for business. lol.

Major: Architecture
Minor: Ecological Design

I am currently a state certified & licensed General Contractor and Design-Builder. However, the market in Florida is currently in the tank...so, it's the survival of the fittest for the next year or so.

My family owns a funeral home, therefore, I'm working on my degree in mortuary science...and if all goes well, I'll finish in December '08.

Considering the uncertainty of the economy, it's good to have something to fall back on. Plus, there will always be a need for funeral directors...no matter how bad the economy is!

I am a journalist student from Ohio State University. I would like to do broadcasting journalism in the entertainment field, like E! or BET or even MTV. I would also like to write for magazines and even start my own magazine for young black females. I have donw internships at a local news station, ABC13, and at a local radio station, 97.5/95.7. I would like to use my journalism talent/career to help the younger generations make positive decisions when it comes to their life. I have a younger sister and I see first hand how they think and what they find important, it is often sad. I know that a person does not have to be a journalism student to help the kids but I feel that it will be more effective since TV is the main source of getting information these days. I just really feel that as a young black professional woman ihave an obligation to continue to lend a helping hand so the black community can know its worth in the world.

Major: Social Work
Minor: Thinking about Psychology, but not entirely sure yet.

First, I plan to get my MSW/JD. I would love to be a Youth Advocate or a Juvenile Defense Attorney. I just feel like children get so overlooked and underrepresented in the legal system. IMO, there wouldn't be so many in detention centers, etc, if they had somebody who cared( and was able to do something legally for them) by their sides when facing the legal system.

I haven't done any internships yet(it took me a minute to find what I was passionate about and forget about the financial aspect of it), but I have applied for some and hopefully I get good news soon.
