You have to understand, there is a VERY small population that really pays attention to you, good or bad.
The vast amount of us are indifferent to you (and much else).
That number is only exceeded by the amount of people that are virtually unaware that you exist.
So if you, the ONE, are willing to spend a lot of your time antagonizing the FEW, knowing that the MANY don't much care if you live or die, its all good to US.
