Question: if you were planning on celebrating Valentines this weekend - would you still expect flowers or something...? I was listening to the radio this morning and the woman on Kid Kraddick was saying how women in office settings have this pressure to see who gets the best V-Day gift and it made me laugh cuz it's kinda true. You always watch to see if people with SOs get flowers, etc delievered to their workplace. The guy I was dating senior year of college was in Iraq and he had flowers and two stuffed bears sent to my work and then called right after they were delivered and I will always remember that Valentines. Just wondering if I'm being to materialistic to want something special like that even if we're planning dinner, etc this weekend...?

I think you are - if you're not celebrating until this weekend, and he did something today, that would be like you getting TWO Valentine's Days. Most male minds don't work that way.

Also, I need to go buy my boyfriend a present sometime today. That's the pleasure of waiting until the weekend to celebrate!

Male and female minds don't work that differently but rather it's about socialization and expectations.

If men and women express their expectations to one another, and don't tolerate slackers, then both men and women will work to meet them if they care enough. If a man or woman conveys that they are expecting a present today and this weekend, that's what the expecation is and it isn't a lot to as for.

Yes.

But I don't work in an office setting. So what he personally drops off (no deliveries--and I'm not a flower person b/c it's too predictable and easy) isn't for show.

"15% of women in the work place buy their own flowers on Valentine's Day."

I heard this crazy stat on the news this morning. Is this legit? I mean is the pressure that high to get flowers on Valentine's Day that some women feel the need to fake it?
