CBS: 'Jericho' coming back

Story Highlights

• CBS moved to bring back "Jericho"
• Fan says "educated professionals" are rallying behind show
• Show appeals to young audience; online version well-received
• Network donating 50,000 pounds of protest peanuts to charity

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- "Jericho" fans who slammed CBS with protests over the drama's cancellation have won the battle: It will return next season, the network said Wednesday.
It was an unusual display of viewer might since networks usually put ratings ahead of even the most passionate, well-organized fan base. But CBS said the show deserved another chance, while cautioning that it must prove it has wider appeal.

Fan protest saves US show Jericho
Post-apocalypse TV drama Jericho has been saved from cancellation following an internet campaign by its fans.

US TV network CBS axed the show last month, triggering a protest that culminated in shipments of nuts being sent to the broadcaster. "Wow!" said CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler in a letter to the fans. "You got our attention."

Resurrection: The fans save 'Jericho'
Sometimes going a little nutty is a good thing.

For weeks, "Jericho" junkies have been firing e-mails (effectively shutting down InBoxes at CBS and this newspaper), signing petitions and sending bags of nuts to CBS headquarters in protest.

The assault seems to have worked, "Jericho" creator and executive producer Carol Barbee said Tuesday. CBS executives are in discussions with the show's producers and actors to resuscitate the show -- killed just last month -- for an eight-episode run in mid-season.

I watched the episode last night and loved it. Trying to figure out if Chavez [Dawkins' buddy] is a good guy or not [nothing is what it seems in this show]. Anyone else watch it? What are y'all's thoughts on it?

I had the same feelings and thought as well.
Along with another one: The 10th is based in Ft. Drum, NY.
Would that not be on the wrong side?

Very happy to see the gang back.

Well to be fair, I don't get too technical on stuff from the show so I don't know about where the 10th is based...for all we know they could have been doing a training mission in the west at the time of the explosions.

I hate that they were only given 7 episodes, I want a few more seasons so they can continue building up suspense and developing chracters. I think this season is going to be almost too fast paced.

I think that they were trying to address what some people thought of as a rather "slow" season the first year.

I know that's what they're doing but to me it loses some of its luster being too action packed.

Last night's episode was good, but I think they're trying to pack in too much into these 7 episodes. I hope they get renewed for another season or two so that they can go back to last year's formula...showing the human element and leaving most things vague until the following episode or slowly explaining them. Basically it feels like they are "dumbing down" the current episodes to get a larger demographic, just my opinion.

What's everyone else's thoughts about last night's episodes?

I had to watch both episodes last night on DVR because I had been on vacation. Here are my thoughts on this season so far:

- There was way too much going on in the first episode, and it confused me the way they opened it (with Constantino and Jake in the house together)
- It bugs me that they essentially picked up the story four months after the New Bern War. Why couldn't they have just played out the war and kept going from there? It's annoying to me that we ended the first season with a shortage of food and resources and everything else, and now suddenly they have everything...liquor, flat screen TVs, medical equipment AND chocolate chips? That army division's made up of miracle workers!
- Jake has been way too scatterbrained in the first two episodes. I get that he's mad about his dad, and I buy that he would want revenge, but he's normally intense and quiet about it...this season he's been crazy, aggressive and foolish.
- I found that I had forgotten too much of the story since the last episode aired SO long ago.
- I'm worried they're going to hook Stanley up with that blonde from the firm that has come in and fixed everything in town (loans, etc.)...just a feeling I have.

Reminds me now of the best of B-5 with multi-story arcs and threads.
Great writing.

The episode last night was great, but I hate that it seems they're tying up a lot of loose ends to give closure if they don't get renewed for a 3rd season. I definitely want a 3rd season from them or at least a good movie.

Do you think Beck will help Hawkins and Jake fight against the Cheyene government?

At first perhaps reluctantly, but Beck will true to himself as we have so far seen him.

Tonight was incredible....nothing is sacred to these writers, I have loved the episodes so far. It's sad to think only 2 more episodes left....anyone think CBS will renew? I absolutely think they should.

I've been thinking about it more and there are tons of storylines they could use in season 3...the Cheyenne government being a hold out and a kind of civil war due to propaganda sort of thing.

The preview for next week looks intense.
