We used to make our guys wear a really big star during the last week of pledgeship but IFC made us stop.

At my chapter we just wore them when the actives wore their Quills. Usually on Monday (we were supposed to where pin attire all day it was a Panhellenic thing to promote Greek Life but some days I just woke up to late to get fully ready in Pin attire) for meeting or ceremonies and things like that.

How big? Like Flava Flav clock big? Or Nazi Germany Star of David big?

What sucks is that we have to tell our girls that they are NOT ALLOWED to wear their pins...because it's hazing. It is always a disappointment to the girls who want to wear them to find out they can't.

Per your school? If they choose to wear them, it isn't hazing.

Yes and no. Like many things, it can be turned into a hazing tool. So, we simply can't allow it in case someone gets the 'wrong idea'.

I'm sorry, but that's about the lamest thing I've heard in a long time. Why even have the pins if they're not allowed to wear them.
I could make an argument that forbidding NMs from wearing the pins is hazing. It would be a pretty stupid argument, but not nearly as stupid as the idea that you can't let them wear the pins because someone might think there was hazing going on.
Waiter, can we please get a reality check over here?

Do you think I make the rules? Because I don't. Why can't we do scavenger hunts? Because it COULD BE a hazing tool. Why can't we do a lot of things? Because it could be a hazing tool. That's just how it is nowadays...so now they are only allowed to wear them in pin attire.

No need to get so testy, your initial post, below, made it sound like you actually do not let the pledges wear their pins, which I agree, would be beyond ridiculous.
If what you're saying is that the pledges now have the same restriction as the sisters, which is, you don't wear your pin/badge unless you're in "proper" attire, then that seems to fit the current definition of pledges and sisters being treated equally. And I thought that's what pretty much all the groups do now, so why would your pledges be any more or less disappointed than all of the new members on campus?

ZBT - no pledge program and thus no pledge pin.
You receive your real badge about a week after you become a brother. Requirements of when you should wear it are a chapter-by-chapter issue, but you shouldn't wear it when not wearing formal or business attire, a graduation gown, or the clothing we wear during ritual.

I just wonder why some people would not wear their pledge pin or Active Badge/Pin?
There should be a proudness of wearing them!
LXA has certain rules even though they are becoming relaxed in todays society.

In Tau Beta Sigma not only did we have to wear the pledge pin CONSTANTLY (pin it on your towel and hang it outside your shower stall if need be) but we also had to carry these pledge notebooks everywhere, as well as a pledge memoriabilia item (in this case a hankerchief with TBS stuff painted on it). This was like 22 years ago. I think it would be considered hazing now. If you didn't have it, a sister could give you demerits.

This is exactly how my local was as well. This was over 15 years ago however. we had to pin it on our bra when we went out drinking. I'm not sure what would have happened if we didn't b/c no one ever got caught without their pledge book or pledge pin. The wearing of the pledge pin with more frequency is something I wish we would bring back.

I'm a pledge and we're required to wear our pledge pins unless we're sleeping or showering.

I don't remember being required to wear my pledge pin, but I definitely wore it almost every day because I loved it.
