Ummm...well technically it isn't that hard. I was guaranteed acceptance because I was in top 10%.

Please don't generalize. Maybe people in East Texas have always referred it to "Texas" or "UT." I've lived in Texas all my life and I've always heard it as "UT-Austin." No one that i've known has ever called it Texas or UT....not even the UT-Austin representatives that came to our high schools called it UT. Plus, all my friends at A&M call it "TU"

That's exactly what I said. It's nearly impossible for someone from Texas who is NOT in the top 10% to be accepted.

That's weird because I have lived in Texas all of my life (and not anywhere near east Texas) and have never once heard it referred to anything but UT or Texas. And of course those Aggies are a different thing all together!

What I don't understand, is calling it TU suppose to be an insult? lol. My friend was trying to explain it to me and I was like I guess you have to an Aggie (or a Longhorn) to get it.

And about the 10%...I guess you're right. Except here in El Paso, being in the Top 10% isn't that hard! lol. Seriously, so if anyone wants to get guaranteed acceptance graduate from a HS in El Paso!! hahaha (although i heard they did away with that)

ETA: Soo I just wanted to say that getting Top 10% is easier in El Paso vs. Austin or Dallas...lol. I don't mean it that us El Pasoans are dumb or anything! lol...just wanted to put that out there! hahaha

I've lived in Texas my entire life and have visited every part of the state and have never heard of anyone not refer to the University of Texas as "Texas" or "UT". We are the only UT. If you go to UT-Arlington, you don't say "I go to UT".

Co-sign. Except that I did not attend UT, and I now live in another state. However, even at my non-UT school everyone refers to the school in Austin as UT or Texas.

Ep- a word of caution... it appears that you are still in school... as you begin the resume/interview process, you *really* need to refer to the school that you attend at UTEP and not UT. That could really cause some potential employers to raise an eyebrow.

And while we are it, the "university system" is not a concept unique to Texas- in fact, I believe that most if not all states have the same set-up. However, when athletic teams take the field, the "main" campus (e.g. Austin, Knoxville, Lincoln, Norman) has just the state name on their jerseys, whereas all the "system" schools always have the full inital thing.
