I'm not going to flame anyone. I just wish everyone might cut Soliloquy some slack. We all know Recruitment is difficult. Add to that the fact that she didn't get a bid in the fall which is so hurtful.

It's easy from the inside to judge what helps someone get a bid. From the outside, you can only guess and hope.

Can we all just ease up on her and wish her well?

I absolutely wish her well, but it seems like people are over-raising her hopes and expectations that somehow, some way, she'll find her way into one of these houses. And it's not necessarily true. Not everyone does get into the greek system and I think it's ok to let someone know that hey, you definitely gave it your best shot (which it sounds like she did), it just wasn't for you, sounds like you have lots of other stuff on your plate, go maximize that. Rather than continuing to egg her into informal rush, continuous open bidding, torturing herself through formal again. There are only 4 chapters on campus, I can't imagine she didn't already have her best shot at membership. I don't think we need to make everyone feel like they "should" be greek just because they really, really want to.

It's pretty funny how during recruitment people on this board are sooo supportive, but when you don't end up greek, some show their true sides.

This position I just got really is a highly desired spot. It's a huge deal on our campus and becomes a competition among greeks as to who has the most members represented in this organization. One sorority actually bought up the fact they had the most members represented in it during rush. The reason I said it increases my chances because it makes me more visable and allows me to meet more people, including sorority women.

I don't have some weird deformity that barred me from receiving a bid. Another girl I rushed with this year also went through last year, knowing way more people inside houses then I did, and didn't get a bid. She spent the following year maintaining her grades and meeting a few more people, and guess what? She got the house she wanted this time. She isn't the only example I can think of. Maybe it's just our greek system, but going through twice is pretty common - even for well-known and respected girls. Yeah, I know it makes our system sound weird- but that's just how it works. So whatever.

One last thing, a lot of the people in this thread that have been super supportive consistently because we have been chatting on AIM or through PM's. They knew me a bit better and of course were being more encouraging.
