My involvement for the first 10 years out of school was pretty limited... attending an occasional Founders Day and reading the Theta magazine. It was not for lack of interest... more of a time thing and living in cities either without alumnae chapters or with chapters that just were not the right fit for me.
However, upon recently moving to a new town things changed. I was home with an infant, had a husband whose job requires insanely long hours, and I did not know a soul. I longed for a way to make contact with other adults, so I looked into joining the local alumnae chapter. I was surprised to learn that there was not one.
So... I decided to take action. I contacted HQ and learned how to form an alumnae chapter (it is very easy, by the way), and within 2 months we had a charter and many intersted women. I was chosen to be our first President, which means that I will be a voting delegate at convention this year. I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to going.
Now that I am getting back into things, I regret that I did not do more before. I also encourage others to get involved at the alumnae level.... I sincerely am enjoying it just as much this time around, for some reasons that are different but for many reasons that are the same.
