I dig this show. It's a way to make the pageant more interesting. And I actually want to see who wins for the first time in AGES!!

I was thinking the same thing. Normally I just think it's nice if my state makes it in, but now the show has me rooting for other states. I know the whole premise of the show was to make them seem "normal" and make people get invested...I admit, it worked on me.

I'm glad it's on TLC this year. I think they have the best shot at keeping it in future years. They also tried something new with the reality show, so I'm looking forward to seeing if the pageant is also a little different.
I'm having a Miss America party to watch the pageant on Saturday, and I'm giving out prizes to people who know facts about the contestants. Most of my info is from Reality Check. Anyone have a fun suggestion for the name of the drink I'm making - margarita mix, cranberry juice, fresca, and malibu. Yuummmm!

Ditto! I actually plan to watch this year and I haven't done that in a long time.

Can I come? That sounds like fun! I used to do this in high school and my friends and I would make crowns out of Tostitos bags.
Name of the drink--how about the Boardwalk Bomb, in honor of the home of the Miss America Pageant for so many years, or the Crown Cranberry Fizz?

I think you've got your information incorrect. According to her profile on the Miss America Web site, she goes/went to Penn.

You are right, I had her mistaken with Miss Missouri 2007, who's a Pi Ph from Mizzou. You are peppy and perceptive!

The only intro I didn't like was Georgia's: "From the state where you can have a southern accent and a college degree. Hi y'all, I am Miss Georgia..." Was that a shot at other southern states? Seemed a little lacking class to me... but I could have been reading it wrong.
Texas' dress was horrible.... and that talent was bad too. And that was the second time I had to see that darn talen because I watched the Miss Texas pageant on tv.
Talent supposedly makes up 30% of the score--so I really don't understand the outcome.

What is the breakdown? Is is 30% question, 30% talent, 20% evening gown, and 20% swim suit?

I liked her intro, but that's because I interpreted it differently. I thought she was referring to the Georgia HOPE scholarships set up with Lottery funds, which have paid for a whole lotta kids to go to college in that state.

I think it was just meant to be funny. This is coming from someone born and raised in Tennessee and who went to college in Mississippi. I laughed really hard.
I thought it was kinda like redneck jokes. You know one of them will probably hit home at some point if you are Southern, but it's still funny as hell.
I also LOVED SC's intro: from the state where everybody knows everybody -- and their business.
