I recently created our crest using mostly computer generated images...you definitely want to read up on heraldry so you know exactly what each thing on a coat of arms means. Just google it and you can find lots of info. When it comes to the actual creation, theres a great website that offers free heraldic clip art that you can use to create your own crest & arms -
