Re the tip jars - they make me LESS likely to tip. Especially when they're at places like Subway where I know damn well the staff isn't working for tips (i.e. they're making minimum or better). It's presumptuous & intrusive.

When it comes to take out, I tip occasionally. I never really figured wait staff did much but bag it up and bring it to the counter so I didn't think a tip was really necessary. As for tip jars, the sushi chefs have their own and I am never sure if they get tip share so I try to tip them separately from the waitress in that situation. But what's with Cold Stone having a tip line on their receipts and a tip jar? The people at my Cold Stone don't sing and I'm sure they get paid a regular hourly wage - so what's the tip for?
