Hazing and Misconduct Violations at UCSD

The source obtained the pictures from the Facebook profiles of Sigma Nu brothers, said Sigma Nu President Robbie Holmes. Apparently, several brothers received “harassing” messages from the source that, coupled with low security settings, established a thread allowing access to the brothers’ profiles. The informant logged on under the alias of “Trent Jacobs” and was not part of any network.


We never responded to the messages and have absolutely no idea who it is,” Holmes said.

The "harassing" messages were apparently just used to get the Sigma Nu bros to reply to his messages. Once you receive a message on fbook from someone, even if they aren't your friend, you can see their profile, pictures, etc. My guess is the dude messaged them something like 'hey, sigma nu sucks' and then a few of them responded, granting him access to their profile and pictures, some of which were pictures of hazing.

Now, a better question is, why in the world would they put pictures of hazing on facebook?

Because too many kids still don't get the fact that nothing is ever really "private" on the internet. Or, they're just that dumb.

LOL. Yeah, I'd rather not know anyway, then. I've heard of handshakes in the NIC, but normally only think of hand signs in relation to NPHC orgs.

Which is why I didn't post a link to the article when I found it three weeks ago. That, and Kevin's "where's your proof?" policy. The article confirmed that at least a few of the pictures were a few years old and that "accusations of fraternity hazing have not been presented to the Interfraternity Council". Sounds like SN HQ is acting accordingly by investigating the allegations but it seems like the school isn't doing much. To me, it seems like there's a whole lot of not much.

Maybe there is a statute of limitations I don't know about, but how is the fact that some of the pictures are a few years old used to effectively discredit the investigation? I mean I understand that if the pics are really old many of the brothers in those pics may be graduated, but if the pictures clearly depict sigma nu hazing (under the assumption that is the case, tho I have no idea what the pictures show) even if they are a little dated, wouldn't that at the least warrant an investigation to see if these events are still going on? Basically, what I'm saying is that old pictures of hazing are still pictures of hazing.

And how is the fact that IFC didn't hear of the allegations proof of anything? Whenever a chapter has internal issues they do everything in their power to make sure IFC knows nothing about it. Furthermore, when this guy reported the hazing to SN HQ I doubt his first instinct was 'ok, now time to contact the IFC board', which I'm pretty sure probably has at least a few sigma nu's on it, mathematically.

I'll gladly admit that I'm wrong if the OP isn't a troll. But I stand by what I say. This is typical HB/ZZ behavior. The link directing us to the article is just a shameless plug that says "Hoo-ha....look what I did, everybody!"

However, one thing I'm very confident about. The anonymous source the article referenced? The person who reported the Facebook photos to Sigma Nu HQ? If it wasn't our old pal, who else would it be?
