LG, he gave my brother and I an obscene gesture (I'm sure you know what it was) when we both came home from school, both as Nupes. What's even worse a lot of my dad's friends are also Nupes, and they tease him every chance they get about us pledging Kappa. One of his friends he went to college with wrote me one of my recommendation letters, and brings it up in conversation with my dad just to get under his skin. LOL.
Btw: I won't post what my dad refers to a Nupe as, because I know DSTCHAOS will use it on this message board whenever she can.

OK, I was about 11 or 12 and me, my dad, and my uncle (an Alpha) went to a Tennessee State B-Ball game. When we got there we sit with my uncles brothers in the stands. They hopped and yelled the whole game it got on my nerves and then the Omega's came in and got sent out for hopping on the gym floor during the game. Then right before half time about 10 cats in red blazers and red bow ties came in and everybody stopped and watched them, especially the ladies. I ask my dad who they were and my uncle said Punk A$$ Kappa's and I replied they maybe punks but all your girls are watching them.
They post up on a wall and just stood there, it was so smooth and you could see the envy in every man and the desire in every woman there, then they later turned and left and the game resumed but for those few moments I saw the truth. Without hopping, yelling, or getting kicked out, they not only had the other frats attention the Kappa's had taken over with out a word or show, just their presence was enough. I ask my dad how I could become one of those because the men yelling behind me had got on my nerves, he said I didn't know what I wanted I was to young forget about it.
I was sold after that.
My freshman year I was invited to the Alpha interest meeting and they were having drinks and snacks so I thought why not I am hungry and the food was free, at the door the host said welcome to your first step toward Alpha and my response got me in deeper then I thought. I told him that I didn't want to be an Alpha just came because it was rude not to except an invitation. He ask me what did I want to be if not an Alpha and my dumb freshman a$$ said a "Kappa" real big and country. He sent me on my way and told the Kappa's on the yard and so begin a year of small private interest meetings with the Kappa's on the yard.
That's why Kappa, nothing else would do.

^^^ That is an interesting tale about how young folx are influenced. Someone else might have been impressed by the Alpha's or Omega's behavior, but you weren't. Yet you were impressed by the Kappa's behavior.
My problem with all of this is where is the mention of what they gave back to the community, etc. I mean really you wanted to be a Kappa because you thought they were cool?

LG, I think we all did. Nupes are just too smooth, and the ladies love us. LOL.
I'm just playin'. "PB walks away from LG, with his head down, hands behind his back, kickin' rocks".

I know you're joking but stuff like this is always going to be subjectively based on what you're used to.
<---has never seen a smooth Kappa. Rarely even sees handsome Kappas.

Dang, you must be in the wrong area cuz I gotta admit I've seen some cuties (with mad swagger) around the way....not all, but quite a few....now if they are interested in the "team" I play on is a whole nother story....

lol.
Seriously. This is the thing that kills me. It's hilarious at the same time, but I'll be the 1st to ask, where did this Pretty, handsome, good looking, whatever, whatever image come from? I know it didn't come from our Founding Fathers. I know EWD or any of the Founders didn't say "Oh yeah, and we're going to be known as Pretty Boys too, and handsome jokers". lol. Does anyone know why this is? Seriously.
It's sad when I hear people say " Damn, he's a Kappa? He's hit, he doesn't look like a Kappa." And yes I've heard people say that about some of the Nupes when I was in undergrad. We're about Achievement. Where did the player, good looking image come from?
And smooth??? Hell, I'm far from smooth. I'm slew footed and quite clumsy, and extremely shy, especially around women. I also wear glasses. I guess I must look awkward wearing my fraternity jacket then.
So again where did this smooth thing come from? lol. I'm over here laughing, but I'm asking a serious question here.

Ladygreek though I rarely post I read a lot of the post and I am always general impressed by your understanding and witty banter, but your response to my post took me by surprise (not insulted, just surprised). In my post I stated this first impression came at age 12 so the cool factor was the huge in a 12 year olds eyes. In order to keep from writing the book on my rode to Kappa I posted were it began. Of course there was more to the decision than the Kappas are cool, so I want to be one, but that is a long story and this forum is not the place for that.
Thank you for your concern in how I made my decision but trust me, it was a well informed and long studied process that brought me to Kappa. But that first impression still stands out in my mind.

But the question was why Kappa? And all you mentioned was your impression as a 12 year old. So I responded thusly. I was surprised at your response, because I also consider you to be an intelligent, and well thought-out poster.
And I guess I interpreted "start at the beginning" to mean then go from there.

ROTFLMAO! I am feelin' you on this big time! Whenever the Nupes would walk into a greek sip, or any greek function, the other frats would get pissed. They got mad because the sororities started giving us all the attention. They would stop what they were doing, look and stare. I loved every bit of it. LMAO! Hell, what man wouldn't want to be in a fraternity like Kappa. The Nupes are ALL THAT!!!
