So to use Chi Omega as an example, in the first post (founding) it would be Arkansas. For Alpha chapters it would be Washington. When it comes to Psi chapters a designation as the founding chapter could be noted as well.

I certainly appreciate all of the non-Chi Omegas trying to understand/explain our system for naming chapters -- believe me, there are plenty of Chi Omegas who can't understand it!

I'll try to make this simple:

Look at the Greek Alphabet from end to beginning (always leaving off Omega, as that is for deceased members). Psi is the first chapter...proceeding through single letters until Alpha.

Next, repeat the backwards alphabet again, this time using the second letter "Alpha" ...Psi Alpha, Chi Alpha...until Alpha Alpha.

Next group begins with Psi Beta, Chi Beta...until Beta Beta.

There are a few exceptions, but basically -- that's it!

Isn't there a Beta Alpha (UPenn)? I have a friend who joined Chi O there.

So there are no Omega Psi, Omega Chi, Omega Phi, or just no Omega?

Do the groups end with the double letter (i.e the _____ Gamma series stops with Gamma Gamma)?

There are no Omega chapters whatsoever. Omega is for departed sisters.
No, the chapters can end in the same letter and keep going. For example, we have a Delta Delta chapter at Cal-Santa Barbara, Alpha Alpha, Theta Theta and a few others. And yes, there is a Beta Alpha.

Yay Jess! I'm so glad you continued this thread with the Epsilons. I'm learning so many interesting things.

Just a tidbit of info for KD's Epsilon. Originally, we had an Epsilon chapter at Elizabeth College (1903) but it only existed sub-rosa for a year before KD decided that sub-rosa chapters were not a good idea. We refer to that chapter as Epsilon Prime and the LSU chapter as just Epsilon.

So is anyone up for doing the Zeta chapters?

I could not find an Epsilon chapter for Alpha Phi, ASA, AST, or Phi Sig. I tried the forums, Google, and the National Websites.

My old Baird's copy has this information:

Alpha Phi--Epsilon chapter at Minnesota (not sure if they are still around) but founded in 1890.

ASA--Epsilon chapter at Fauquier Institute (not sure if active) founded in 1907.

AST--I don't see an Epsilon chapter listed

Phi Sigma Sigma--Epsilon chapter at Adelphi College (not sure if active) founded in 1920.

You can't find it because Alpha Sigma Tau has never had an Epsilon chapter

Alpha Phi's Epsilon chapter is currently open, although I don't know if that has been continuous or not.

AOII's Theta chapter is a DePauw, founded in 1907, it is currently inactive.

Alpha Phi's Theta chapter is at Michigan, founded in 1892. (Looks to be still active from the Michigan Panhellenic website)

Alpha Sigma Alpha, don't see a Theta chapter in my Baird's Manual.

Chi Omega's Theta chapter is at West VA, founded in 1905. (Looks to still be active from the WV Panhellenic website)

Kappa Delta's Theta chapter is at Randolph-Macon Woman's College, founded in 1903.

ETA: Not sure if Alpha Phi, ASA, Chi O, and KD are active Theta chapters....but I know AOII's Theta chapter isn't active currently.
