It's not necessarily about image. It's about their sisters' safety. When my friend was pledging Phi Mu, she told me that her chapter had a rule that they weren't allowed on the second floor of fraternity houses or anywhere else in the house that wasn't a "common" area to prevent any chance of date rape or of girls feeling pressured to do things that they didn't want to do with guys.

when i rushed, i was told some stuff that would make a man seem like Fabio:

A) "ya man u can just grab a couple girls after a swap and take them back your place. unless ofcourse the president wants to do them."

B) "i took a girl after one of our parties back to lakeside and did her in the elevator"

C) "this pool table [it was in the fraternity house] is filthy...so much has happened on it"

D) "the girls usually just get really get drunk and [insert curse word] here on the couch

E) "i got a girl the first week i was here...we did in the kitchen of our fraternity house"

F) "the girls here are as h***y as we are...they just wanna [insert curse word]


OH and one alumni in a good fraternity told me (very drunk)

"im not gonna bull---- you and give you a bunch of rush lines, but i can say going greek gives you something to do"

so kevlar, maybe we can exchange some more rush lines? just send me a message.



after all of that, its to the girls credit and responsibility not to sleep around...i couldn't image what the guys would say if they did

Here's the deal - these lines reduce women to sex objects. The vast majority of women are not going to like that - worry more about developing a relationship with a woman, and sex will be a component of that. Most sorority women are intelligent, complex people who are not going to jump on anything with a fraternity jersey. That is not to say they are not sexual beings - but they are probably not sluts, and you simply are not going to have much success if you treat them as such.
I hope you did not pledge based on the rush lines you were fed. You should want to be a part of a fraternity because you want to be a part of a brotherhood, not so they can pimp for you. (!)

Gamma Phi Beta girl...i AGREE with you...i love the Greek system...but i might run for president b/c i really want to revamp the degragation and lies told to recruit members to their fraternity. also, i realize now that any guy (thats Caucasian) can get into ANY fraternity...the fraternities need members and saying "oh we close bidding mid summer...." is usually just a lie to make it seem like a big deal for the pledge.

if the fraternities did not make it seem like getting a bid was a big deal...who would pay 2200 dollars to join? we have rules saying to limit convo's with GDI's...only b/c this raises our own confidence like "oh we're better"

i know all the corruption in our Greek system at UA and i hope to run for president one day to make a change

Oh sweetheart, I would try to make a change first by referring to non-greeks as such... and not as GDIs. I know the greek world at UA is very insular, but not following that rule about not talking to non-greeks and becoming open to meeting some peeps outside the greek system would probably help.

The house is actually ahead of schedule, it may even be done by mid to late June. We discussed it tonight at chapter as a matter of fact. It's coming along great though, should be really nice. Gonna be a lot of guys living there too... plus a pretty big band room.
