I was thinking along the lines of those great tacky appliqued blinged up sweaters, kitschy dangle earrings, horned rim glasses, stirrup pants for her....

polyester pants and cosby christmas sweater for him with a comb over and a garland "scarf" around his neck

If it were me in the tacky sweater and stirrup pants, I would also bring an awful looking fruit cake as my hostess gift.
