Wasn't this movie rated R??? If so, why on earth would parents be surprised that there was adult content in it - cartoon or not? That has nothing to do with cartoons, that has to do with idiot parenting.

I mean get real - I don't think anyone took their 8 year old to see Fritz the Cat or Heavy Metal just because it was a cartoon - if they did they're too stupid to breathe.

As to the war cartoons, that isn't any different than every other villain on prime time nowadays being Middle Eastern. Propaganda is propaganda, blatant or subtle. Like I said, none of those cartoons from WWII were EVER shown on Saturday morning TV.

That answers my previous question. Even before 9/11 we saw villains in more recent cartoons being darker and having foreign accents.

33girl...but see that is JUST what I am saying...when I went I saw at least 3 parents (no joke!) get up and take thier kids out and I too wondered if they knew what they were taking thier kids to see

That was the point of the movie also...parents NEED to really monitor what they let entertain thier kids, especially if a parent is not there to monitor them anyway.

And yes DSTCHAOS on your point about Family Guy...what I do find disturbing however is that now in my area it comes on around 6pm on local stations ( and yes I know someone will argue about it doesn't matter what time it comes on kids will watch and blah blah blah) and really, parents should be concerned that it's not prime time any more when syndication pretty much sets it's own times when it comes on.

Moving on another tangent...now they have to put ratings on video games....and from what I have seen (Grand Theft Auto not withstanding) they need to!

Bottom line, is that there are still a lot of people that believe that just because it's animated or a 'video game' that it's for the kids and that can't be so much further away from the truth.

Japanese anime has to be watered down for American audiences because of how graphic they are in nature and even still most are still extra violent when they air... I won't let my nephew watch Power Rangers nor Bleach or Blood because most of that I have seen the original uncut versions and I don't care if he is 6 and his mommy and daddy let him watch....he won't in my house!!

Most of the anime out there still has a lot of Adult situations and plots that kids under certain ages shouldn't be allowed to get exposed to.

...and let's not even get into hentai....

So true! That situation makes many anime fans, including myself, mad. The thing is that we here in America view anime as cartoons for kids. That's why some of the best non-kid anime shows are not shown in America. The only two channels that they show this stuff is Adult Swim on Cartoon Network and The Anime Channel. Reason why they won't show other shows on television (even on the movie channels) is because of content, like nudity.

I want to make one thing clear, just because there is nudity, usually doesn't mean it's porn.

But here in America, many people view nudity as evil. Hello? What about the nude statues made centuries ago? Are they evil? No.

Another thing is that there is a certain anime show that I would like to see, but I would have to pay $80 for a DVD set of four or five episodes (that would equal close to $500 for the entire season set). One top of that, I would have to buy a multi-region DVD player. Also, if there was an anime that is avalible in America that is English dubbed. For the entire series or season, I would have to pay $40 or more for that, which is ridiculous.

If the parents don't like the material on TV, they should turn off the TV. Let their kids read a book. Books are great. On that note, even some manga books are censored.

By the way, what do you guys think about Dora the Explorer? Sorry that this a long post, guys.

It was and that movie made such big headlines when it came out because of all the offensive material that movie theaters went overboard in making sure children under 17 were not admitted. At all the theaters by me, they checked your ID when buying the tickets, checked your ID again when you walked into the theater and then had two security guards standing outside the theater to make sure that nobody snuck in. I remember getting up to use the restroom and having to do a security check when I walked back in. And the security guards sat there and scrutinized my ID because I was only 18 at the time and they thought my ID was fake. Ridiculous....it was just a damn movie.

Anyway, it's funny what I never saw as a kid and now understand as an adult. There was a Disney cartoon I saw a few months ago (can't remember which one) that I hadn't seen since I was a kid. I remember thinking, "Oh wow...there's a lot of innuendo in this movie!" but I never picked up on it as a kid.

I got in, and I was 16. And I still get carded NOW for R-Rated movies (true story - the lady at Walmart wouldn't sell me Terminator 3 because I didn't bring my ID). That will be forever known as the "Zack Morris" date. My friend set me up with that one - and he showed up wearing penny loafers, faded jeans, a sweatervest and had poufy blond hair - in 1999. If he would have made one Saved By the Bell reference, I would have lost it.

I had just graduated from college when SP the movie came out. It was a big deal for my friends and me because we were SP dorks. I didn't know you were younger than I am.

I was most amused at Satan's solo and subsequent high note. Great freakin' movie. "Abooot."

No, there are some things that are beneath them - they leave those things for the trombones/low brass.
