You know, 10:30 mass just doesn't have the same ring as midnight mass.

I think it's a matter of what you grew up with. When we were little, we'd come home from church, and do the whole Christmas carol/Night Before Christmas thing. That way, "Santa" had a better chance to put some serious toys under the tree!

Agreed. If it's called Midnight Mass, it should be at Midnight. Otherwise call it Christmas Eve Mass or Christmas Vigil Mass.

But Vigil Mass is earlier! Plus we use the "Mass at Midnight" liturgy, not Mass at Dawn, etc.
(I should remember to check how many Christmas Eve/Day Masses there are in the hymnal next time I'm there)
