I completely agree.

And when people start to experience things that counter their preconceived notions, they write it off as "exceptions."

as i said before...I hate it when people 'apologize' for saying things they mean....sometimes, I think you have time to think about what you are going to say before you say it and once it hits the floor, it's pretty much a done deal at that point....and in this day and age of digital media, 1/2 the world will know about your verbal slip before you have time to get the I and apostrophe to "I'm sorry" out of your mouth.

THINK before you speak and don't say it if you don't mean it

He should be used to that by now the ignorant old f*ck - I mean seriously this guy has uttered stupid crap like this in the past (differences in sexes, race linked to libido, homosexuality being an abomination, obese people being stupid, etc.). Just because someone is intelligent doesn't mean they can't also be an ignorant bigot afterall - and I wish people would realize this and stop giving this guy a podium.

Not really true in the world of academia - and in Watson's case I suspect that the only thing keeping him from being completely 'black balled' is the Nobel... and even before this latest comment he was already on the academic fringe in terms of speaking engagements and lectures (particularly in some circles considering the controversy behind whether or not all the work was even his).

Actually, there are academics and scientists who have built their academic reputations off of (what can be interpreted as) bigotry. I mentioned the Social Darwinists Herrnstein and Murray who were loved by many despite the hate of many.

I don't know how the Nobel prize works but I imagine you have to be doing something in the interest of humankind so bigotry isn't a good thing. I can also see why this guy is losing speaking engagements. He's a loose canon.

So a little medical genetic education.

Lately, LOTS of studies are showing that rearing humans in impoverished environments, i.e. poor food sources as infants, lack of instruction and nurturing and harangued harassment/lack of opportunities as one gets older causes significant health debilities as one ages.

So, Watson, who received the Nobel Prize in 1953 with Francis Crick for discovering the structure of DNA by X-ray crystallography, made a huge leap and bound because most of the impoverished countries on the planet according to him are thought to be in Africa.

However, research has shown that to be inaccurate and foolish. While there are a number of countries in Africa whose populations are in poor health, there are several other countries, some who hide their sick from public view that equally have poor health which those who are colorstruck often ignore. North Korea and parts of China are notorious in hiding their infirmed population from world view.

From a global health perspective, as humankind, we all should attempt to improve health environments for ALL children and parents. As long as we have screwball academicians that throw poorly investigated propaganda against large groups of people in the name of science and medical genetics who have notable accolades, we will never evolve. Period.

Survival of the fittest means, we are only as strong as our weakest...

Cool AT ITS BEST!!! TURNABOUT IS FAIR PLAY!!!

Revealed: scientist who sparked racism row has black genes
By Robert Verkaik
Published: 10 December 2007

A Nobel Prize-winning scientist who provoked a public outcry by claiming black Africans were less intelligent than whites has a DNA profile with up to 16 times more genes of black origin than the average white European.

An analysis of the genome of James Watson showed that 16 per cent of his genes were likely to have come from a black ancestor of African descent. By contrast, most people of European descent would have no more than 1 per cent.
