As I had some personal issues come up, I decided to change course (again ) and am looking at a pre-master's course to start this coming summer. (2.75 gpa, GRE or MAT, 2 recommendations and a statement of purpose) This way I can re-adjust to school without so much pressure. If I can handle it, I can transfer my status to degree seeking or transfer the credits to another school.

I never know what to write for the statement.

This is week 3 of official teaching in my masters programme. I must say, it's like boot camp. Monday I spent all afternoon lying on my back underneath a 17th century dining table, looking at woodworm damage. Today we hiked up and down Stirling Castle looking and critiquing reconstruction. We've got to have our dissertation subjects sorted out by next week (thankfully, mine is good to go, w00t!). Missing my fiance terribly, but loving Scotland. The resources for study are amazing, and having so many significant sights to study and significant collections (public and private) so close is *awesome*.

The official title of my degree is "Master of Letters in the History of Art: Decorative Arts and Design History". Basically...we cover everything from tapestries to tea kettles to tables to silverwear to paintings. At the moment, we're cranking through the 16th century, focusing on British and Scottish country houses for examples. We're lucky to have the Burrel collection 15 minutes away, Stirling castle 45 minutes away, Kelvingrove museum is a 2 minute walk (literally), Edinburgh is a 2 hr drive, and London is an hour long 99p Easy Jet flight away. Location, location, location.

I'm almost done but not quite. LOL!
I graduate with my Masters in Education in May this year (God willing) but I have decided to continue my education by going for a Reading certificate (which I should have by summer 09), then a Reading Credential (which I will have by fall 10) and finally, a Masters in Reading (which I will have in summer 2011). Oh boy. I'm a sucker for educational punishment.

Well, I'm bang on target for finishing on time. Seven months and two weeks to go until I'm done with my PhD. I can't wait! I'm in the middle of the third-year-freak-out, currently trying to determine the location of four paintings in the Royal Collection so I can see them, analyse them, and write Chapter II. I've got my two biggest chapters (III and IV)written, and just have two smaller ones, and the intro and conclusion to finish. I also have an article in the works. I'm also applying for postdocs, which seems really scary. Whew. I need more chocolate.
Anyone else on the home stretch of a PhD and freaking out about the real world??

Hey! I just got my graduate school applications in for the fall of next year. I'm applying to MS and MPH programs in Public Health. I hate the waiting process...it's so nerve-wracking!
