Being Asian shouldn't be a "problem" for membership in an NPC group, anymore than being Latina or African American is. It could be a consideration, though, and anyone who subscribes to the model minority myth is simply ignorant.

My chapter had many girls of all races, religions and ethnicities, but it would be inaccurate to say that all campuses and chapters have this kind of representation, when they clearly don't. Not that GLOs are equal opportunity groups anyway.

The answer to whether race is a barrier to entry depends on where you go to school and perhaps which houses you are interested in joining. Some embrace diversity, and others are not focused on that. I'm glad to see more diversity in the collegiate pictures of my GLO magazine year after year at many chapters. While the chapters in the deep south are comprised of mostly caucasian girls, that could be demographics in part--are there many Asian girls at schools such as Ole Miss?

To the OP: if you want to go through FR, then do it. The junior status will not help but might not be as big a barrier as you think. Race is always out there--sometimes viewed positively, sometimes not. Only you can decide whether it should scare you off from meeting some potentially wonderful friends in a house, or simply be a physical characteristic that is one more way to show how fabulous you are. If you have a lot to offer a house in the way of leadership, academics, community service, and other talents, those qualities will come across well when you meet people, and the girls in the houses SHOULD meet someone like you because they need those qualities in their members. Yes, there are people in GLOs who could be more openminded, but this is life in general, isn't it?
