career presentation/pre law students
Hey guys, I need some help.
I am doing a career presentation on Saturday for college students who are interested in pursuing a career in law. Of course I have waited until the last minute to really get it together.
Here's what I would love to know -- if you are a college student who is interested in law, what would you like to know? What questions would you want answered? What would be helpful? If you are in law school, what do you wish you knew before you started?
Any advice would be appreciated VERY much. Thanks!!

my advisor (Timothy Hagle) wrote a very interesting pre-law/advising FAQ - i know it was very helpful to me in determining stuff like, what law schools i should apply to, how important the lsat, recomendations/grades are - so you might want to check it out to get some kind of idea what college students are interested in knowing

ARGH- The dreaded law school subject. Sorry for the vent, my boyfriend is taking the LSAT Saturday so I've been up to my ears in it.
The FAQ was very helpful to me and I forwarded it to him. He's a little behind in things.

Iowahawkeye, THANK YOU!!! You totally saved me -- that FAQ is awesome! I even emailed Prof. Hagle and got his permission to copy and distribute it! What a cool guy -- the information he provided is so helpful and so honest -- it's exactly what people need to hear before going to law school.

One thing I didn't know about until I got to law school was that some law schools have disertation requirements. At my school if you were in an honors program (journals, moot court) they fulfilled your writing requirement. If you weren't you had to work by yourself to find a professor to advise you and pick a subject, etc. I remember being so scared that I wouldn't be accepted to an honors program and so relieved when I was.

Yes, Professor Hagle is a Nazi in the classroom (I have him this semester for Criminal law and Procedure) but when it comes to advising for law school - he does rock i'm glad it was helpful!

Thanks for the help, guys!
It went well -- it ended up being very informal, and there were very few people interested in law anyway, so we didn't have a large audience. For once it was a good thing that I didn't really prepare...

Glad it went well. The FAQ was pretty good (have to remove the last parts of the address to get to the webpg) too.
