Each organization has a different way of handling standards issues, but
I have seen a lot of standards boards jump immediately to social probation as the answer for everything. If you prepare yourself in advance, you may be able to negotiate a more positive outcome. If you have been sent to standards, I suggest you do the following:
1. Admit to your actions.
2. Acknowledge why they were wrong, specifically in the context of your chapters rules.
3. Suggest an outcome that would be beneficial to both you and the chapter.
For example, if you are sent to standards because you drank too much and caused a scene at a mixer, you would say something like:
"I know that I drank too much at the Alpha Alpha Alpha mixer last week and puked on the schoolbus. That was unacceptable, because I am responsible for always acting like a lady and preserving the reputation of our chapter. I would like to act as a sober sister at the next two mixers, and plan this semester's speaker on risk management."

^^^ I agree. If you KNOW you did something wrong, the best thing to do is go into it acknowledging your mistakes. Things will go much more smoothly than if you try to say you did nothing wrong (especially when the behavior or action was witnessed by others).

All of the above is correct.
I would however add that you be sure to follow through with whatever you promise -- and don't promise more than you're willing and able to do. Think long and hard about what kind of consequences you are willing and able to accept.

I don't think we should all assume the OP has done something wrong - she may have just heard the phrase and wondered. Simple curiousity! I'm hoping if she actually did have to go in front of her standards board they'd tell her what was going on.
