For some strange reason I thought Rusty and Casey came from Chicago (can anyone verify?). If that's the case then there's no way they could be 10 hours from home if C-R is in Ohio.

It's probably just a plot hole. A LOT of first seasons screw crap up like that because the writers want to make a certain point (like Casey having HOURS to explain what's happened), but they forget they've already given out information contrary to said point.
